The Materials You Will Need
If you’ve ever shopped at IKEA, you will know that they have ample of supplies for home DIY projects, like this one. You will need the following materials to build the russian box hockey:
- Two 2×10′ boards for the top
- Two 2×10′ boards for the bottom
- 16 linear feet of 1/2” copper pipe for the legs
- 16 linear feet of 1/2” aluminum pipe for the arms
- Three sheets of 3/4” MDF for the walls
- Two sheets of vinyl for the roof
- 55 acrylic glass tiles for the roof
- 25 domed acrylic mirror tiles for the roof
- Three sheets of 3/4” plywood for the floor
- Four 2.5” metal shelves for the floor
- 47 2.5” metal corner brackets for the floor
- 48 2.5” metal hanging brackets for the floor
- 48 2.5” metal studs for the floor
The Process
In order to build a Russian box hockey, you will need to start by screwing together the top and bottom boards. These are simply two 2×10′ boards which have had holes drilled in their ends to accommodate the linear pipes. The top board is slightly longer than the bottom one so it can be hidden inside the cage when it is complete. Once you’ve laid out the top and bottom boards, you can start routing out the sides for the plywood floor. The most difficult part of this project is getting all the pieces and materials in place without any mistakes, so be sure that you follow the instructions carefully.
