The United States of America hockey team (or the US for short) has traditionally been known for its excellence on the ice, but off the ice it’s been struggling a little bit. Back in the day, the team was actually nicknamed ‘The Golden Goons’ because of their incredible golden hair, but today they’re more commonly referred to as ‘The Americans’ because of their exceptional hockey skills. Despite their on-ice success, the off-ice reputation of the team has been tarnished somewhat due to several high-profile incidents, mostly involving drugs and alcohol. This is a reputation that some people in the USA are trying to change by establishing a new national anthem. Since the creation of the team in 1925, they have never had a uniform set. The design of the uniforms was often dictated by the fashions of the day, but since the 1960s, the design of the uniform has largely stayed consistent.
