How To Paint A Hockey Goalie Helmet? [Solved!]

Sharing is Caring

You’ve probably seen a few hockey goalies with their masks on, breathing heavily, while performing an extremely intense workout on the ice. That’s because hockey goalies have to be hyper-aware of their surroundings at all times, as they have to be ready for sudden bursts of speed and determination from the opposing team.

If you’re a hockey fan and you’re looking to add a little bit of character to your living room wall, then why not give painting a hockey goalie helmet a try? All you need is a little bit of talent, a lot of patience, and hopefully, some of that famous hockey goalie determination.

The Materials You Will Need

Like any other painting project, you will need the basic materials to get started:

  • A hockey helmet
  • White paint
  • A baseball cap
  • A pair of sunglasses
  • A small black marker
  • A brush
  • A cloth
  • Some old t-shirts or clothes
  • A hockey net
  • A few puffs of ball hair
  • A selection of hockey sticks
  • A few puffs of dirt
  • A few pine needles

How Do You Paint A Hockey Goalie Helmet?

Paint a hockey goalie helmet by applying the white paint in short, quick strokes. Do not over-brush or over-wet the canvas as this will result in a dull finish and the paint will peel off. Once the surface of the canvas is thoroughly covered, use the small black marker to draw some hockey figures or scenery on it. You can also add some simple backgrounds, like the sky or the grass, for an extra touch of nature.

Once you’re happy with your background, start building up the figures by applying some more white paint on top of the black figure. Add the finishing touches like the stick handles and the hair by repeating the process. The paint will dry significantly faster than you would think and once it’s dry, you can start adding the finishing touches. A final coat of paint will give the helmet a shiny surface you can pinch right off.

As with any other painting project, practice makes perfect. So, keep practicing and have some fun!
