It’s happened to us all. You’ve purchased a new hockey helmet and the first thing you notice when you wear it is the lack of ventilation. Now, you don’t want to embarrass yourself by passing out in front of your friends and family, so you decide to cover the weak spot using some painters tape. Unfortunately, the tape doesn’t come off easily, and after several frustrating hours, you give up and decide to leave the tape on until you can remove it without any residue. Although this may seem like a common problem to most, it actually happens to a lot of people. So we decided to put together a quick tutorial on how to remove the stickers from a hockey helmet, so you can finally breathe comfortably when you’re playing.

Basic Tools You’ll Need
- Hacksaw
- Hand Saw
- Electric Drill
- Drill Bits
- Putty Knife
- Razor Blade
Step 1: Cut Out The Stickers
Before you start removing the stickers from the helmet, take a look at it from the outside and cut away any tape that might be on the surface. Also, make sure that the areas where the tape is covering aren’t damaged or contaminated. You don’t want to ruin the finish on your helmet.
Once you’ve got the exterior clean, you can start working on the interior. First, use a hacksaw to cut away the areas of the plastic where the stickers are located. If there’s no clear plastic on the interior of your helmet, you can use a hand saw to do the same thing. Don’t worry about being too precise, as you won’t have access to the sticker area once you start removing the tape. This step will help prepare the interior of your helmet for further removal. You don’t want particles of plastic remaining on the surface of the helmet, which could potentially ruin the finish.
Step 2: Rip Off The Stickers
Once you’ve cut away the stickers, you can start using the putty knife to peel them away. Start by going around the edges of the sticker and work your way toward the middle. Press firmly yet gently so you don’t cut into the surface of the helmet. Also, make sure you don’t bump into anything while working, as this could cause an accident. You don’t want to hurt yourself or someone else while trying to remove the stickers.
Once all the stickers are off, you can start overusing a razor blade to smooth down any rough edges left by the knife. Take your time doing this, as you don’t want to cut into the surface of the helmet. Press firmly yet gently while working the razor against the surface of the helmet. Do this until you’ve got a nice even coat of smooth material on the inside of your helmet. This will help improve your ventilation, so take your time doing this part carefully.
Step 3: Sand Down The Stickers
Now that the inside of your helmet is looking smooth, it’s time to give it a final polish. Take some sandpaper and rub it against the surface of the helmet in a circular motion. Do this for a few minutes until you start to see some shine. Also, make sure you clean off the inside of your helmet before you do this step, as there’s no need to start with dirty surfaces. Always wipe down the surface of your helmet before you start applying the polish. This will help improve the shine and overall look of your helmet.
Done!
Once you’ve followed these simple instructions, you’ll be able to remove the stickers from your hockey helmet hassle free. If you want to keep the stickers or transfer them to another surface, you can use contact paper. Just cut out the areas where the stickers are and apply contact paper across the surface. Peel it away once you’ve got it stuck and you’ll be able to reuse the stickers. If you run into any problems while following these steps, don’t hesitate to reach out to us for help.
