Is Hockey Better Than Soccer? [Expert Review!]

Sharing is Caring

I was recently asked by a friend if I thought hockey was better than soccer. At first, I wasn’t entirely sure what he was asking. After some back and forth, I understood that he genuinely didn’t know the difference between the two sports, and was curious as to which one I thought was better. Truthfully, I love both sports and think that they’re both incredible. But because my knowledge is somewhat limited in this area, I figured I’d share my answer and reasoning behind it so that people could gain a better understanding of the differences between the two sports and which one they should be playing (or watching, as the case may be). So here we go.

Hockey Is All About Speed

First off, let’s talk about speed. You don’t have to be fast to play hockey, but you do need to be able to move around quickly enough to be effective. This is why hockey is often referred to as โ€œthe sport of quick witsโ€. If you can dodge the opponent’s punches and stickchecks effectively, you’ll have an edge over the rest of the players. Also, because hockey is a โ€œcontactโ€ sport, it’s important to be able to recover quickly enough from your collisions so that you can play through the pain. This is why it’s considered an โ€œaggressively pacedโ€ sport. While this can also be attributed to the fact that fights are commonplace in hockey and there’s always someone trying to muscle their way to the puck, I think the main issue is that the sport is simply too fast for the average person to keep up with.

Hockey Is More Active

Let’s talk about activity for a moment. While soccer is considered to be a โ€œpassiveโ€ sport because it doesn’t require that much activity from the players, hockey does involve a great deal of activity from the players. After all, they’re constantly in motion, fighting for the puck, blocking shots, and just trying to win. This is why hockey is often considered a more physical sport than soccer. The activity level of a hockey player is also higher when compared to that of a soccer player because they have to be in better shape to be able to perform at the highest level.

Hockey Is More Social

One more thing that sets hockey apart from soccer is the social aspect. Because hockey is a relatively social sport (fights are common, after all), you’ll often see groups of friends and families sitting together, engaging in lively discussions about the game. If you’re looking for a sport that’s more social than athletic, I would recommend hockey. As I already mentioned, fighting is commonplace in hockey and it’s more common for parents to get involved in these fights than for kids to get into them. This is because, as strange as it might seem, hockey is often considered to be a โ€œparentalโ€ sport. This means that parents are typically trying to protect their children from injury. They’re also there to help settle arguments between players, enforce rules, and make sure their children are behaving properly. This is why it is considered to be a โ€œcollaborativeโ€ sport. It’s also important to note that when you play hockey, you’re working together with your friends. This is one of the main reasons why it is considered to be a more social sport. You’re constantly having to work together as a team to achieve the win, preventing cases of โ€œsingle-player hockeyโ€. In other words, no one individual dominates the puck and wins the game. This tends to level the playing field, making the game more enjoyable and closer to what is actually a team sport.

Soccer Is Wider

Now let’s talk about width. Soccer is considered to be โ€œwiderโ€ than hockey because there are more positions available to the players. This is particularly the case with respect to defending. In hockey, there are only a handful of positions that are โ€œdefensiveโ€. The rest is up to the player. Some soccer players like to say that they’re โ€œbrought inโ€ to the game to defend, while others prefer to go forward and attack. This is similar to the difference between a fullback and a defensive back. In hockey, if you aren’t able to stop the puck, you’re considered to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and that’s basically it. There are only so many spots on the ice and if you don’t have the โ€œrightโ€ equipment to match your desired position, you’ll just have to find a way to make do.

Overall, I Think Hockey Is Better Than Soccer

All things considered, I think that hockey is a better sport than soccer. It’s a bit more active, it’s more social, and it’s quicker. If you’re looking for a sport to participate in or watch, I would say that hockey is a much better choice than soccer. But, like I already said, it’s a two-sport town and I’m sure that many of you are diehard soccer fans who disagree with me. Maybe one day, we’ll all get along and enjoy the beautiful game together.
