Sharing is Caring

Welcome to the Glossary of Hockey Lingo, a place where you can find handy definitions for the words and phrases used in hockey. We’ll discuss the meaning of “ir”, which stands for “inactive”. For the purposes of this article, we will use the US spellings of words and phrases. However, if you’re from another country you may need to adjust the spelling of some of these words.

Inactive

This is the default setting for a hockey player. The puck has not been scored on and the player has not taken any shots on goal. An “inactive” player does not participate in any hockey related activities including but not limited to: practicing, playing, or watching hockey games.

In reality, if a player is not participating in any type of activity then they are considered inactive. This can also apply to your fantasy hockey team if you’re playing on an online platform like My Team Fantasy or ESPN Fantasy.

Ironman

An ironman is a hockey player who has played in at least 300 regular season games. An ironman can really show how much effort they’ve put in over the course of their career. Some of the players who are considered ironmen include: Wayne Gretzky, Ron Francis, Al MacIntosh, and Joe Murphy.

An ironman is usually the captain of their team or a well-known face in the NHL. They have usually put in the hours and hours of practice that rookie players and young guns try to emulate. The fact that they’ve been playing for such a long time gives them the experience and smarts to lead by example.

Jester

A jester is a type of mascot in hockey. They are usually depicted as a goofy, smiling character wearing fancy dress and a funny facial expression. When a team plays the Nashville Predators, a jester sometimes appears between the benches during the game. You might see a jester riding a unicorn or playing a banjo while trying to sparkle like the stars.

The Nashville Predators pride themselves on being the place where comedians thrive. One of the best things about being in Tennessee is that you’re close to all the fun that Nashville has to offer. You might catch a game at the Predators’ arena on Broadway before making your way to one of the city’s famous bars.

Puck Daddy

You might come across a website called Puck Daddy, which is one of the absolute best places to get all your hockey news. The website was started by Bryan Alvarez in 2010. It’s updated constantly and covers everything from player news to hockey trends and stats. If you’re looking for an authoritative, in-depth look at all things hockey, then you can’t go wrong with Puck Daddy.

Skater

A skater is someone who primarily competes on the ice. In most cases, skaters are not concerned with taking care of the puck. Instead, they focus on going fast and taking advantage of their speed. It is not uncommon to see a sprinter-like demeanor from a skater as they try to beat the clock for that all-important goal or a breakaway chance.

If you’ve ever seen one of the Harlem Globetrotters’ popular Ice Cream Game shows then you know what kind of skaters we’re talking about. The Globetrotters’ games feature two teams of comedians who face off on an ice rink while serving up some sweet treats and funny remarks. While these skaters may appear comical on screen, it’s easy to see how someone with their talents could be a force to be reckoned with on the ice.

There are many different types of hockey players. Some are very aggressive while others prefer to sit back and rely on their skill. It’s important to consider the type of game you’re watching and who’s playing before making any assumptions.
