When Does Hockey Start Up Again? [Facts!]

Spread the love

I’m not sure what’s going to happen with the COVID-19 pandemic and the summer Olympic Games in Tokyo in the next few months. In the meantime, we can still enjoy the highs of the post-pandemic world of sports. One of the best sports stories of the year is the Toronto Raptors making it to the NBA Finals for the first time in the team’s history. Last year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs were great, but this year’s edition was even better. It seems like the NHL, the NBA, and the MLS have all the best stories this year. Let’s take a look at when hockey will start up again.

When Will The Habs And Leafs Play Again?

It’s been over a month since the NHL stopped playing, and the post-pandemic world of sports is slowly starting to get back to normal. While some leagues and teams have already started to practice and play games, others haven’t started up yet. The Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs won’t be playing any more games at least until the summer. The two teams haven’t played a game since March 12, and they might not be playing any this upcoming season, either. They’re among the organizations that have the most games postponed due to the pandemic, along with the NBA and the MLS.

When Will MLB, The CFL, And The PGA Play Again?

With the MLB, CFL, and PGA all suspended for the 2020 season, there are no major sports events in North America this year. That isn’t going to stop the leagues and teams from playing, but things will be different in September, October, and even November. The good thing is that we won’t have to wait that long to start seeing games again.

The MLB wants to get back to normal as soon as possible, and while they might not play any exhibition games this year, they will eventually be back. The same can be said for the CFL and the PGA. With the world of sports slowly getting back to normal, it will be interesting to see how the games are played when they do begin again. There are still a lot of unknowns surrounding the pandemic, but it’s great to see the sports world bounce back stronger than before.

When Is Spring Training?

Another huge benefit to not playing any sports this year is that it’s given us an extended spring training. Normally, spring training lasts for about a month, which means the games will start around mid-March at the latest. But due to the pandemic, spring training has been extended by a few weeks, giving us some exciting baseball to look forward to. The first game is usually played in March, and fans start getting excited about the start of the season in April. Not that we didn’t have enough excitement last year.

The longer spring training goes on, the more it feels like summer. It’s only been a few weeks since the season ended, but players and coaches are already in the gym doing their stretches and strengthening exercises. While it’s great to have more time off work and school, it can also start to feel a little bit too much like summer.

When Will Championship Rivalries Start Up Again?

One of the most excitement-filled times of the year in sports is when the rivalries start up again. After spending the last few months trying to be as healthy as possible and avoiding arguments and fights, fans can finally get back out there and start seeing some good old-fashioned competition. While the rivalries haven’t been as intense as before due to the pandemic, it hasn’t stopped them from being interesting to follow.

Over in the NBA, the Los Angeles Clippers and the Golden State Warriors are currently embroiled in one of the greatest rivalry races in recent NBA history. Both teams have an opportunity to dethrone the defending NBA champion and 2019 NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant as league leaders set new individual season scoring and playoff performance records. It would take some good old-fashioned playoff magic to make that happen, but the rivalry is as good as ever.

In the NFL, the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants are currently embroiled in one of the greatest rivalry races of all time. It was originally proposed by Roger Goodell back in 1994 that the NFL would have eight division champions instead of just the usual seven as a part of an effort to make the playoffs more interesting. There have been some hiccups along the way, but the point still stands that the NFL wants to keep us interested in its product.

When Will International Friendlies And Tournaments Begin?

One of the best things that came out of last year’s sports hiatus is that it gave us the opportunity to participate in some international friendlies and tournaments. It might not sound like much, but fans at home only see the highlights anyway, so they might not realize how important these games were for the teams that participated in them. The games helped build crucial relationships with top-tier international footballers and coaches that can help improve our national team, as well.

It’s not just football either. We’ve gotten to see some of the greatest basketball players on the planet play for the US men’s national team this year, and we might even get the chance to see them face off against each other in the upcoming FIBA World Cup. The same can be said for the US women’s national team, as well, who have also qualified for this year’s Women’s World Cup in Australia. Not only that, but many of the international players have expressed interest in coming to play in the NHL, so it will be interesting to see if the league can help make that happen.

When Will Arena Football And Baseball Seasons Begin?

One of the best shows that will be resurrected from this year’s hiatus is Arena Football League (AFL) and American Baseball League (ABL). In the AFL, which begins its regular season on July 26, fans can look forward to seeing former college and professional football players and coaches compete for the Alouettes in Montreal. It will be interesting to see how the AFL decides to handle its upcoming season after spending most of last year without a team due to the pandemic.

In the ABL, which is currently in the middle of its season and whose season ends on September 4, fans can look forward to seeing former college and pro baseball players in action. The season hasn’t been as exciting to follow as fans might hope given that the bulk of the games were either postponed or canceled due to concerns surrounding the pandemic. But it hasn’t stopped the players from having some fun and building on the momentum from last year’s playoffs.

It’s great to have more time off school and work, but it can also be exhausting to keep track of everything that’s going on in the world of sports. It will be interesting to see how the sports world evolves in the post-pandemic world once the season begins, but it’s great to have some sports to look forward to. It just takes a little time to get back to normal.
