When Is Hockey Season End? [Expert Guide!]

Sharing is Caring

You may have heard that the season is nearly over. The hockey season, that is. If you’re a hockey fan, you know that the playoffs begin in April and this year’s Stanley Cup Final is just around the corner. But what if you’re not a hockey fan yet? Do you still need to know when hockey season is over?

The season may be over in the NHL, but that doesn’t mean the season is over for the entire sport. There are other sports that you can enjoy during the offseason, including the Women’s World Cup, which ran from June 12 to September 7 this year. In case you were wondering, the Men’s World Cup is in September too. The next big sporting event after the World Cup is the Summer Olympics, which will be held in Tokyo in August.

When Is Hockey Season Over For The Entire Sport?

The season in the NHL ends when the final game is played. In the case of a tie, the two teams involved in the tiebreaker game will play each other to determine the official season’s end. After that, the top of the league standings is used to seed the playoffs. When the playoffs begin, the first round is played as a series of best-of-seven games. Once the first round is completed, the winning teams move on to the next round.

In the meantime, the season in the other major North American pro sports leaguesโ€”the NBA, the NFL, and the MLBโ€”ends after the final game is played. The playoffs begin in the NBA in April, while the other two leagues’ playoffs begin in September. The World Series, the pinnacle of the MLB season, is usually played in October or November. However, the NFL and the NBA have additional rounds of playoffs in the winter, which leads to more games and more suspense throughout the year.

So, if you love hockey, you will be able to enjoy its playoffs this year. But if you’re just getting into the sport, you might want to wait until next year to try and catch the magic of the Winter Olympics. Then again, maybe you’ll enjoy the NHL playoffs more than any other year. It’s up to you!
